Wilshire, best known for catchphrases like “swallow that frown and “smile as you dial”, has become something of a minor celebrity insome circles.
However, with last year’s £225,000 fine for making nuisance calls, and a string of business failures behind him, he is dividing opinion within the industry as a whole.
Save Britain Money, which styles itself as “the consumer champion”, is a non-trading entity established to provide operational support and managerial services to companies in the group.
A statement from the company said: “As a non-trading company the business did not have the financial resources available to pay damages awarded against it in a recent court case regarding a lease on a former office.”
Earlier this year, another business in the group – Nationwide Energy Services – collapsed, owing unsecured creditors £5.8m, including trade creditors and HMRC, which are owed £2.5m and £554,000 respectively.
It was the third business to have failed in less than a year, following the administrations of We Claim U Gain and Fuelswitch.com in November 2013.
